The Hamilton Gear and Manufacturing Company founded in 1911, by Mr. Chester Brown Hamilton (University of Toronto, Mechanical Engineering, 1906), produced industrial gears and gear assemblies until its closure in 1994. This company, located at 950 Dupont St., Toronto, was involved in a number of large projects that both shaped their fields or were significant to Canada.... (See S.I. for continued Significance) - Function
-
Used to lower the output speed of a motor, while increasing the amount of torque. - Technical
-
Reducers such as this unit (previously catalogued separately as 1967.0163 helical gearbox, and 1967.0164 worm gearbox) were used in the mining industry in Canada to drive equipment such as conveyors and shaft lifts. The reducer was needed when the motor driving the system worked at too high of an RPM for the system to function properly. The reducer would lower the RPM from the motor to the system and output that reduced power on the same plane as the input. - Area Notes
