W.O. BENTLEY REDESIGNED THE FRENCH CLERGET 9 ENGINE IN 1914 TO SOLVE ITS' OVERHEATING PROBLEMS. THE RESULT WAS THE A.R.1. BENTLEY REDESIGNED THE CYLINDER AS A THIN STEEL LINER INSIDE AN ALUMINIUM CASE, WHICH HAD A MUCH HIGHER THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY, TO ELIMINATE THE OVERHEATING PROBLEM. - Area Notes
