Post design incorporates flared collar near tip, which anchored the post firmly in the ground. It could be easily driven into the site but was almost impossible to dislodge unless it was dug out. this style of post was effective in discouraging thieves or vandals from removing survey markers. - Area Notes

- Post appears to have been coated with a hard, shiny protective substance (shellac or varnish?) This is especially evident on post top & smooth upper portion of shaft.
