Au Canada, la fabrication des poêles en fonte fait partie d'une longue tradition remontant au XVIIIe siècle : la plupart prennent la forme de boîtes à feu parfois abondamment décorées, semblables à celles produites aux Forges du Saint-Maurice. Il est fort possible que ce modèle particulier ait été fabriqué par une fonderie de l'Ontario influencée par la production des fonderies américaines, compte tenu de la circulation des brevets entre le Canada et les États-Unis à l'époque. De fait, à cette époque il était possible à des fondeurs et inventeurs canadiens de faire breveter leur invention aux États-Unis et vice-versa.

Similaire au " Box Sunshine " annoncé dans le Sears Roebuck Catalogue (Chicago,1897). Au XIXe siècle, les poêles de chauffage sont généralement alimentés au bois, surtout dans le milieu rural pourvu d'une végétation abondante. La plupart des grandes villes utilisent d'abord le charbon et le gaz de houille, disponibles dès les années 1830, pour l'éclairage et les activités domestiques et, vers 1900, profiteront d'infrastructures en assurant la distribution. Inspiré du modèle " Box Sunshine " vendu par le détaillant américain Sears Roebuck, ce poêle conserve sa forme bombée - rappelant le modèle " Mystic " des années 1850 - mais se distingue néanmoins par l'ajout d'un deuxième rond sur la surface de chauffage, qui pouvait aussi servir à la cuisson des aliments. Sa conception est inspirée du style " Art nouveau " caractéristique de la fin du XIXe siècle, comme le démontrent les décorations florales sur chacun des côtés et sur les pattes.
