Canada
Used by the Canadian National Railways (CNR) photo branch.
Function
Used to cut and join cine film during editing or repair.
Technical
Splicing of cine film requires the two film ends to be perfectly aligned and their perforations precisely spaced so that it passes through the projector without jamming. Using hinged plates and metal pins, this splicer places and holds two film ends in proper spacing and alignment for trimming. It then enables the operator to move the film ends from that position for abrasion of the emulsion layer and application of cement and then to return the film ends to their original spacing and alignment for joining. Patented in the United States by Harold Rohrdanz and Archibald G. Matteson in 1925 and 1928. This model was designed for 16 mm and 8 mm film.
