HAY TEDDERS CAME INTO USE IN 1850S AFTER FARMERS BEGAN USING MECHANIZED HAY MOWERS. THIS IS EXAMPLE OF EARLIEST FORM OF HAY TEDDER, OF WOODEN CONSTRUCTION, WITH WOOD FRAMES, FORK STAFFS, WHEELS. IT HAS SIX-FORK STAFF, GEAR DRIVE OFF TWO WHEELS, FLAT SPRING STEEL AT ENDS OF FORK STAFFS TO PREVENT FORK BREAKAGE. - Area Notes
