USED TO INJECT LOCAL ANESTHETIC SOLUTION INTO ORAL TISSUE. - Technical
-
CARTRIDGE TYPE SYRINGES ARE USED WITH CARPULES, WHICH ARE SEALED GLASS TUBES CONTAINING AN AESTHETIC SOLUTION WITH A RUBBER CAP AT ONE END & A RUBBER PLUNGER AT THE OTHER. THE SYRINGE CONSISTS OF A BARREL WITH A THREADED HUB TO WHICH A NEEDLE IS ATTACHED, & A PLUNGER. WHEN A CARPULE IS INSERTED INTO THE BARREL, THE SHARPENED PROXIMAL END OF THE NEEDLE PIERCES ITS CAPPED END. WHEN THE PISTON PLUNGER IS DEPRESSED, IT PRESSES UPON THE RUBBER PLUNGER OF THE CARTRIDGE & FORCES THE SOLUTION INTO THE NEEDLE. NON-ASPIRATING SYRINGES PREDATE ASPIRATING SYRINGES & HAVE FLAT ENDED PLUNGERS WHICH DO NOT ATTACH TO THE RUBBER PLUNGER & SO CANNOT BE USED TO DRAW THE PLUNGER BACK FOR ASPIRATION.
