TO OPERATE HIS LIGHTING SYSTEM, EDISON (WITH UPTON) INVENTED THE PARALLEL SYSTEM OF ELECTRICAL CURRENT. FROM THIS CAME THE GENERATOR NICKNAMED "LONG WAISTED MARY ANN". AFTER THIS, C. 1888, ANOTHER DYNAMO WAS DEVELOPED BY HOPKINSON & EDISON. IN THIS ONE, THE MAGNETIC CIRCUIT WAS CHANGED, SHORTENING THE 'LIMBS'. (REF. 2) - Area Notes

- "E.B.-6-K.W./ CAN. GEN. ELEC. CO. LTD." cast in raised print on base. "PATENTED/ OCT 9. 1880 MAR 13. 1881/ 6.K.W./ 125 V./ NO./ 1904" recorded on cast & incised plate mounted on one side of generator. "CANADIAN/ GENERAL ELECTRIC/ COMPANY LIMITED/ PETERBORO WORKS/ ONTARIO" cast on plate fixed to opposite side. "6 KW 125 V 2214" incised in end of shaft. "2" cast in raised print on base.

- BRUSHES MISSING. MAY ALSO BE MISSING OTHER COMPONENTS. NB: GENERATOR HAS BEEN DAMAGED, AND IS HEAVILY SOILED & CORRODED.

- BLACK ENAMEL FINISH. SOME METAL COMPONENTS HAVE NATURAL METAL FINISH.
