TO DETECT AND AMPLIFY RADIO SIGNALS.
Technical
REGENERATIVE RADIO RECEIVERS WERE DEVELOPED IN THE EARLY 1920S, AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO CRYSTAL SETS. REGENERATIVE SETS EMPLOYED A VACUUM TUBE TO BOTH DEMODULATE OR DETECT THE RADIO SIGNAL, AND TO PROVIDE AMPLIFICATION. CAREFUL CONTROL OF THE LEVEL OF AMPLIFICATION WAS NECESSARY TO PREVENT OSCILLATION OF THE VACUUM TUBE BUT THE RESULT WAS THAT POWER OUTPUT WAS INSUFFICIENT TO DRIVE A LOUDSPEAKER. (REF. 1)

LIMITED/ TORONTO. ONTARIO. CANADA". "CGE/ Model 93" marked on top panel. All controls, etc. including tube receptacles labelled. "4285" and "1875" stamped into underside of radio body. "+90B", "+135B", "GROUND/ -B +A", "-22 1/2C", "+C -A", "- 4 1/2C", and "+45C" stamped into connectors on cables. 1 vacuum tube marked "RVC/ PATENTED/ AS SET FORTH ON CARTON" ontube top; "RADIOTRON/ WX199" incised on tube base. 2 remaining tubes * are identical; both marked "RVC/ RADIOTRON/ WX199" on tube top; "RADIOTRON/ WX 199" incised on base.
