Part of a large collection of medical artifacts, archival material & trade literature transferred to CSTM in 2002 from the former History of Medicine Museum, Toronto, ON. Pablum developed by Drs. Tisdall, Drake and Brown at Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto in 1934. Originally marketed through Mead Johnson as "Mead's" prior to Drake's coinage of the term "Pablum", c. 1934. OFF./ A thoroughly cooked and dried/ palatable mixed cereal food, /vitamin and mineral enriched./ Pablum consists of wheatmeal (farina), oat-/ meal, wheat germ, yellow cornmeal, powdered/ beef bone specially prepared for/ human use, so-/dium chloride, powdered alfalfa leaf, powdered/ yeast and reduced iron. Pablum is thoroughly/ cooked under pressure and dried, with result-/ant rupture of the starch granules and some/ dextrinization.
