- Box front marked "PLEXITRON/ NOT TO BE SOLD/ STERILE, NON-PYROGENIC/ No. YT-52/ Combination/ Administration Set/ And Pressure Pump/ FOR/ BLOOD OR PLASMA/ TRANSFUSIONS/ DISPOSABLE/ DISCARD AFTER USE/ [cross symbol]/ Lot No./ A24N1A/ Manufactured for/ THE/ CANADIAN RED CROSS/ BLOOD TRANSFUSION/ SERVICE/ BY/ BAXTER LABORATORIES/ OF CANADA LTD./ ALLISTON. ONTARIO. CANADA". "DIRECTIONS FOR USE/ This set supplied sterile and ready to use except for the venipuncture and airvent needles/ 1. Close the control clamp. 2. Resuspend the blood cells by inverting and righting the container at/ least 10 times. 3. Clean the exposed rubber stopper indentations with a suitable disinfectant. 4./ Insert a sterile No. 17-gauge needle through the small "Air" indentation of the stopper. 5. Remove/ protector from plug-in "A". Illustration 1. 6. Insert plug-in through outlet indentation and suspend/ container. 7. Gently squeeze and release upper part of flexible drip chamber until fluid level is/ above filter. 8. Tap drip chamber to expel air trapped inside filter. If fluid level drops, repeat step/ No. 7. 9. Remove protector from needle adaptor "B", open control clamp and fill remainder of set./ Air bubbles may be expelled by flicking the tubing. Close clamp. Attach sterile needle and proceed/ with venipuncture. 10. Regulate rate of administration with control clamp (10 drops approximate 1/ c.c.) 11. When pressure administration is desired, remove clamp, and squeeze and release the/ plastic chamber above the filter. Illustration II. Rate of administration under pressure is determined by/ the amount and frequency of the squeeze and release action. 12. To return to gravity transfusion,/ squeeze plastic chamber, attach hemostat to tubing below drip chamber, remove unit from stand to/ an upright position and then release chamber. Resuspend container, attach control clamp, remove/ hemostat and regulate rate of flow", 2 illustrations and French language text translation appear on back panel.
