This orienting press was used by the vendor to print display cards for Caplan’s Department Store and Giant Tiger stores. Cette presse à orienter étais utilisé par le donateur pour imprimer des pancartes pour le Grand Magasin Caplan ainsi que pour les magasins Tigre Géant.

Function

This quoin was used with a printing press to produce limited numbers of small size posters otherwise known as showcards in twelve different fonts. The artifact would be used as a form of wedge to help lock the lettering into place. Ce coin était utilisé avec une presse à imprimer pour produire des pancartes ou des affiches publicitaires en douze fontes différentes. Le coin était utilisé pour retenir du lettrage en place pendant le processus d'imprimerie.

Technical

The Line-O-Scribe printing press uses standard metal and wood display types. It represents a simple hand-operated showcard press. The press works on the travelling cylinder principle. The operator pulls a small-diameter impression cylinder over the back of a card which has been placed face down on the press’s inked types. Cette presse à imprimer nommée le Line-O-Scribe utilise des caractères plomb et de bois. Il représente une presse à pancartes simple qui est opérable à la main. Il fonctionne sur le principe d'un cylindre voyageant. L'opérateur tire un cylindre de contre-pression a petit diamètre sous le dos d'une carte qui est placée face cachée sur les fonderies typographiques qui sont recouvertes avec de l'encre pour former une impression.

An object made of metal that is painted black. It has a flat base along with two rows of six teeth that are grooved into its body. The object is “L” shaped and seems to have a squared head. The artifact has uppercase lettering that is visible inside of a rectangle on the bottom flat portion of the object. Un objet fait en métal qui est peinturé noir et qui a une base aplatie. Le corps de l'objet à deux rangées de six dents qui sont formées par des rainures. L'objet est en forme de la lettre “L” et a une tête carrée. L'artefact a un lettrage majuscule à l'intérieur d'un rectangle sous la base aplatie.
