In 1952, the RCAF began developing a new logistics support aircraft to replace the C-54GM North Star and came up with the CL-44. This aircraft was modeled off the Bristol Britannia, and entered service on July 19, 1960. (Ref. 2) American airline, the Flying Tiger Line began using CL-44 all-cargo aircrafts in early 1961. These planes contributed to Flying Tiger’s ascent as one of the largest freight and contract airlines of its time. (Ref. 3)
