Canada: This camera belonged to The Right Honorable Herbert (Herb) Eser Gray. Gray was a prominent political figure that served the liberal party from the early 1960’s to the early 2000’s. He held a variety of positions during his parliamentary career such as deputy Prime Minister, committee chairmanships, and cabinet ministries during the liberal governments of Prime Ministers Pierre Trudeau, and Lester Pearson. Gray is recognized as being Canada’s first Jewish cabinet minister.
Function: The lid to a box in which a camera was marketed and displayed.
Technical: Type sample of one the first smaller-sized Polaroid cameras available. Using type 31 film, the camera produced small 2.25” x 3.25” photographs. The camera is fitted with an f8.8/100mm lens, a 1/25 to 1/100 sec. shutter, and a hot shoe where the user could attach a model no. 281 clip-on flash. The Highlander model 80 Land camera was originally sold for $69.95 in the late 1950s.
