Canada: Founded in 1895 to manufacture telephone and other equipment for Bell Telephone Co. of Canada, Northern Electric & Mfg. Co. Ltd. became Northern Electric Ltd. in 1914, Northern Telecom Ltd. in 1976, Nortel in 1995, Nortel Networks in 1998, and was always leading Canadian manufacture of telephone and later telecommunications equipment.
Function: Used to connect usable power to a telephone from a 105-125V outlet.
Technical: The rotary dial Princess set was introduced in 1965 and was the first decorator set produced by Northern Electric from Western Electric design. The illuminated dial was intended to make it suitable for bedroom use.
