Technical

Designed by Ampex engineer George Brettell and first introduced in 1954, the 620 is a high-quality, portable amplified loudspeaker. According to Leslie and Snyder: “To this day, many audio enthusiasts consider the 620 one of the most natural-sounding speaker systems ever made” (2010, p. 8). It pairs with an Ampex 601 tape recorder, as part of a portable “suitcase” unit (see 2013.0666).
