The company named Larentien Art Pottery/ Poterie d'art Laurentienne inc. Laurentian Art Ware was fouded between 1939 and 1940 in Saint-Jérôme, Québec by two ceramicists from Czechoslovakia named Victor and Irene Kominic. In 1985 the company went bankrupt but was reborn in 1987 under the name La Poterie Laurentienne inc. During the 1970’s and 80’s antique looking pottery objects became the new desired style for Canadian homes and earthy colours that resembled nature tones were subsequently produced in high volumes. The « Lava drip » style produced by this company for their Tundra series was particularly popular. La firme de céramique Laurentien Art Pottery/ Poterie d'art Laurentienne inc. Laurentian Art Ware, a été fondée entre 1939 et 1940 à Saint-Jérôme au Québec par deux céramistes tchécoslovaques, Victor et Irene May Kominic. En décembre 1985 l'entreprise fait faillite, mais renaîtra de ses cendres en 1987 sous le nom de La Poterie Laurentienne inc. Au cours des années 1970 et 1980, les objets de poterie étaient à la mode au Canada a une époque au cours de laquelle la société semblait se rattacher au passé et à la nature. Les antiquités étaient devenues à la mode, l'artisanat, les couleurs terre pour la maison et les appareils domestiques. Le style « Lava drip » de cette firme appelée la série Toundra a été particulièrement populaire.

Technical

This artifact represents an example of pottery being fabricated on a semi industrial scale. The second phase of mechanization for the company took place in 1980 and boasted a larger factory. A press was bought to create dinner plates as well as a large cooling carrousel to more easily manipulate the moulds for both insertion and ejection. Ceci représente la fabrication de poterie sur une base semi-industrielle. La deuxième phase de mécanisation eut lieu en 1980 dans un édifice plus grand pour leur compagnie. Ils firent l’achat d’une presse pour faire les assiettes et des carrousels de coulage pour faciliter la manipulation des moules.

Finish

A white ceramic object with a black handle and black trim around its open end. A six branched tree with fifteen white circular flower petals occupies its branches across the object’s proper left side. A brown spotted background is visible across the entire object. A manufacturing mark is visible underneath the pitcher. Un objet en céramique blanche avec une manche partiellement noir et un bandeau noir à l'ouverture du pichet. Un arbre avec six branches et quinze fleurs blanches occupent le bon côté gauche de l'objet. Un arrière-plan taché avec des spots bruns est visible au travers l'objet en entier. Une marque du fabricateur est visible sous le pichet.
