This fibre optic amplifier was developed by Nortel Networks (formerly Northern Telecom) in Ottawa, Ontario. Nortel Networks was one of the most important manufacturers of telecommunications equipment in the world during the 1990s and early 2000s. Function

This artifact combines separate wavelengths of light into a single beam, providing several channels of communication through one fibre optic cable. Technical

This dialectric-based Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) filter functions as a multiplexer (combining separate wavelengths of light into a single beam) and demultiplexer (separating a single beam back into separate wavelengths). It can be augmented to accommodate additional wavelengths on a single fibre by connecting several of these components in a series. Ce système de communication WDM est basé sur des filtres diélectriques fonctionnent à la fois comme un multiplexeur (pour combine plusieurs longueurs d'ondes lumineuses pour produire un faisceau lumineux) et à la fois comme un démultiplexeur (pour séparer un faisceau lumineux en plusieurs ondes lumineuses). Finish

A gold coloured metal case holds five synthetic dielectric based WDM filters. It also has five yellow synthetic fibre optic cables and their corresponding blue synthetic connecting terminals. Each of the cables and terminals are kept in clear synthetic bags. Un métal de couleur or en forme rectangulaire qui retient cinq filtres diélectriques MRL synthétiques. L'objet a aussi cinq câbles à fibres optiques de couleur jaune avec des connecteurs de câbles bleus qui sont aussi faits avec du matériel synthétique. Chacun des câbles ainsi que les connecteurs de câbles sont retenus dans un sac synthétique transparent.
