- A coal mine in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Millions of tons of coal lie deep down in the earth and under the Atlantic. Cape Breton has one of the largest underwater coal workings in the world. The mine stretches out under the Atlantic for about two miles and the rumbling of a passing ship's propellor can be heard overhead. The view shows the hoisting apparatus at the head of a mine.
