- At the bottom of Steep Rock Lake lie rich ore beds which cannot be reached economically by shaft. In order to create an open face mine, the lake had to be rained to a new river bed, from Marmion Lake through Raft Lake and Finlayson Lake into a new river bed. After the explosion which blew out the plug between Marmion Lake and Raft Lake, it took the water bore six minutes fills the cut and reach a height were it tumbled over the spillway. This is the steam looking east into Marmion.
