- Head-end Brakeman J.A. Laferrière throws a switch at Cornwall yard of the Canadian national so that freight "495" can move in to the siding to pick up cars destined for Toronto. The head-end brakeman rides with the engineer and fireman in the cab of the locomotive. He operates switch points, signals the engineer and couples cars en route. He also checks passing trains for defective equipment and signals the crews in their vans.
