TIN PLATES WERE STAMPED TO IDENTIFY THE SECTION CORNER, TOWNSHIP & RANGE DESIGNATIONS. PLATE CORNERS WERE ALSO STAMPED N, E, S OR W TO FACILITATE PROPER ORIENTATION. STEEL ROD DRIVEN SO TOP WAS ABOVE GROUND & PLATE COULD BE SLIPPED DOWN OVER THE ROD. A METAL PIN THROUGH THE ROD SECURED THE PLATE. (REF.1 P.60) - Area Notes
