THIS TOOL'S PRIMARYFUNCTION IS THE MOUNTING OF TWO GEARS OR WHEELS, AND THE ADJUSTMENT OF THE SPACING BETWEEN THE SHAFTS FOR PROPER ALIGNMENT. DEPTHING TOOLS CAN ALSO BE MODIFIED OR ADAPTED AND USED FOR SETTING A CLOCK ANCHOR ESCAPEMENT TO THE SCAPE WHEEL, FOR TESTING THE DEPTH AND ACTION OF THE ESCAPEMENT BEFORE PLANTING IN THE WATCH PLATES; TO MATCH A CYLINDER TO A CYLINDER SCAPE WHEEL; AND TO ROUNDING UP OR FINISHING WHEELS, OR FOR POLISHING.
