Early example of powered conveyor systems used in orchard packing-houses. Part of a packing line, this particular conveyor transferred fruit from a hopper to a belt conveyor which diverted produce to distinct packing stations. Labourers stationed at the roller conveyor, were tasked with grading and sorting the fruit as it passed by and placing it on the right conveyor belts. - Area Notes

- “E MAP D E” scratched onto side of lower conveyor belt trough. “WAYLAND” on all pulleys and sprockets. Mfr.’s plate reads: “WAYLAND MACHINERY COMPANY, INC./WAYLAND PACKING EQUIPMENT/ COVESVILLE No. 405 [number stamped in] VIRGINIA”.
