This artifact was used both by the donor, and the donor's father as a display piece in their home between the 1960's and 2015.

The donor’s father was a dairy scientist with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food for some 41 years. He collected old items related to dairying, and these items ended up with the donor upon his passing. He would go antique shopping in the Gananoque region of Ontario as well as trade some of his old clothing items. His exchanges were quite often for antique bottles found across the northern part of Leeds County. The donor further bolstered the collection with antiques from the eastern Townships in his quest to recreate a general store set in the 1890s in his basement in the Glebe neighborhood of Ottawa. This object was created by the Canadian manufacturer E. B. Eddy and purchased by the couple who donated it in Irvine, Ontario. Le père du donateur était un scientifique des produits laitiers qui travaillait pour le ministère de l'Agriculture et de l'Alimentation de l'Ontario pour plus de 41 ans. Il a collectionné des artefacts qui correspondaient à son métier. Son fils a contribué à la collection en magasinant pour des antiques dans la région de Gananoque en Ontario. Il a aussi augmenté la collection en échangeant ces vêtements usagés contre des bouteilles antiques retrouvé au travers Leeds Compté. Le but de ces acquisitions était pour créer un magasin général situé dans les années 1890-s dans son sous-sol à Ottawa. Dernièrement le donateur a aussi amélioré la collection avec des objets qu'il a achetés qui appartenaient de la région des Cantons de L'Est. Ce distributeur à papier a été manufacturé à la grande papetière canadienne, E. B. Eddy. Ce distributeur a été acheté par le couple Irvine à Ottawa, Ontario.

This paper distributer is used to support a roll of paper and cut that paper to the user’s desired length. Ce distributeur de papier est utilisé pour supporter le papier en rouleau et le couper pour usage.

Technical

These types of paper dispensers were commonly used in general stores as well as butcher shops to wrap products that had been sold before the introduction of commercial packaging. Finish

An artifact that has a rectangular wooden top and base. The two are connected with two metal feet that are fastened to both the top and bottom pieces of wood with the help of metal screws. A metal arm hangs and has a metal blade fixed to it with the help of a metal rivet on either end. The arm hangs from the top of the artifact and swivels up and down. Below the arm a wooden bar can be inserted into the frame of the artifact to hold a paper roll. The arm may then descend and allow for the blade to cut a piece of paper from the roll to the user’s desired length. The arm that holds the blade has black lettering on it to note the manufacturer. Un objet en forme rectangulaire qui a deux planches de bois qui sont connectés avec l'aide de deux pieds en métal. La planche sur la base et celui du dessus sont fixés aux pieds avec des vises en métal. Un bras de l'objet est équipé avec une lame en métal. La lame est tenue en place avec un rivet en métal de chaque côté. Le bras peut pivoter vers le haut ou le bas. Une tige en bois peut être inséré à l'intérieur du corps de l'objet pour retenir un rouleau de papier. Le bras peut descendre pour couper un morceau de papier à la longueur désirée par l'utilisateur. Un lettrage est visible sur le bras de l'objet qui note le nom du manufacturier.
