The sanitary appliance industry decided to offer coloured products starting in 1926. The colour red appeared around 1930 and Canadian sanitary manufacturers offered six different colours including this one which is known as T’ang red. The manufacturing company named Standard Sanitary & Dominion Radiator, Limited who made these coloured appliances changed its name to American-Standard in 1948. In Canada, the name became American-Standard Products (Canada) Limited with the last factory closing in 2015 in Winnipeg. This artifact embodies a time when the only 61% of Canadians had access to running water. According to Statistics Canada, 56% of Canadians had a flushable toilet and only 45% had a shower or a bath. L'industrie des appareils sanitaires réussit à rejoindre les autres industries en offrant des produits colorés à compter de 1926 et le rouge apparut vers 1930 et l'usine canadienne proposais six options comme couleur incluant le rouge T'ang. La couleur des objets, de couleur rouge nommé T'ang Red, fabrique par une compagnie canadienne nommée Standard Sanitary&Dominion Radiator, Limited. En 1948 la firme prise le nom d'American-Standard. Au Canada, le nom devint American-Standard Products (Canada) Limited. La dernière usine au Canada, celle de Winnipeg, ferma en 2015. L'usage d'une toilette et d'un bain et/ou douche et même l'accès à l'eau courante n'était pas encore généralisé même en 1941. Selon Statistiques Canada, en 1941, 56% des habitations au Canada avaient une toilette à chasse, 45% un bain ou une douche et 61% l'eau courante.

Function

Aesthetically used to conceal the water inside a toilet tank as well as provide access to other internal parts. Utiliser esthétiquement pour cacher l'eau à l'intérieur du bassin de toilette ainsi que pour l'accès aux pièces à l'intérieur.

Technical

A toilet lid is used to ensure water from the tank doesn’t splash out of it and onto the bathroom floor. It also enables the user to manually drain the tank and subsequent bowl by providing access to a plug system at the bottom of the tank. Le couvercle d'une toilette est utilisée pour s'assurer que l'eau de ressort pas du bassin pour se retrouver sur le sol de la salle de bain. Il permet à l'utilisateur de l'accès au bassin pour manuellement le vider avec un bouchon au fond du bassin.

Finish

A red Tang couloured ceramic lid. It is rectangualar and has a beveled edge on its base. A manufacturing stamp is visible on the inside of the lid. Une porte-serviette de couleur Tang rouge fait avec du matériel en céramique. Il y a une base rectangulaire qui est biseauté et le nom du fabricateur sur sont dessous.
