LABEL ON BASE 'DIRECTIONS./ In order that the sweeper may work perfectly, there are two points to be observed./ 1st, That the brush is adjusted neither too high nor too low. This is regulated by loosening the thumb screws on each side of/ the machine and sliding the castings to the required position, after which fasten the thumb screws firmly in place./ 2nd, Should hairs or threads get around the pivot of the brush, which may be known by the Sweeper working hard when/ lifted from the floor, remove them by taking out the brush, which is done by unscrewing the small iron pulley at the right side/ and the corresponding pin at the left side./ Should the bands grow too loose shorten them by unhooking and cutting out a small piece. Oil the bearings occasionally./ Carpets yielding and soft in texture require the brush higher than a floor oil-cloth or hard carpeting of any kind."/ Patented June 24, 1873,and July 20, 1875./ JOSEPH J.
