Recovered from campsite of H.M.S. Alert (Headed by Capt. Sir George Nares, 1875-76), the first vessel to land on the shores of northern Ellesmere Island. G. Hattersley-Smith & R.G. Blackadar discovered site 12 miles south of Cape Sheridan in 1953. This box was evidently part of the kit carried by a group travelling by dog sledge. In fact, they had a number of sledge teams. - Function

Based on surviving contents, expected injuries were wounds and bone breaks and/or sprains (many probably associated with effects of cold and frost bite).
