This is a Canadian-made seed preparation machine. - Function
-
The huller-scarifier prepares seeds (especially legumes such as clover) for planting, improving germination rates. Hulling removes the hull or husk surrounding the seed. Scarification scratches or ruptures the seed hull, allowing the seed to absorb water and hasten germination. - Technical
-
Hulling and scarifying hasten germination by rernoving a growth-inhibiting substance or by increasing the seed's permeability to water or oxygen. Some seeds lose viability rapidly in storage after being hulled or scarified: these processes are usually deferred until planting time. - Area Notes
