RATIONALE FOR BENEFIT OF VIBRATION IS NOT CLEAR: IT MAY HAVE BEEN BELIEVED THAT MOTION WOULD DETER MINERAL DEPOSITS FROM FORMING STONES, OR WOULD DISLODGE SUCH DEPOSITS BEFORE LARGE STONES COULD FORM.
